We have to go to India to experience Ayurveda at its best. It is accessed either through yoga or the more traditional route to India; that is to say, it takes a certain fascination for the culture and civilization of India to appreciate its true value. It’s a commitment: a passion. It is a desire for personal growth, to overrun, to get better and better. Life is changing, and Ayurveda offers a means of progress, improvement, and healing.
Yoga and meditation are good ways to practice Ayurveda. Raja Yoga is particularly helpful to know and identify one’s thoughts and therefore manage one’s emotions. There is no need for all the elements of Ayurveda to be used to achieve health and well-being. A balanced lifestyle, healthy eating, and certain practices can let you achieve joy and get through difficult times more easily.
Daily, cyclical and seasonal disciplines are very important. You need to fast, and sometimes you need to become a vegetarian. We meditate to the extent possible, doing yoga. We’re more aware of our thoughts, our words, and our actions. We observe nature; we live as much as possible in the present moment and recite mantras as needed.
A Practical Exercise of Ayurveda
Here is a practical exercise that will help you identify your negative emotions and transform them into positive emotions. When you’re in the grip of a negative feeling, take a pencil and paper and write whatever you feel honestly.
Then rephrase each sentence in a positive way.
You’ll be more able to see what negative thoughts are repeated constantly in your subconscious and then to learn to work on those emotions instead of suppressing them.
The idea is to become aware of what makes you feel anxious, stressed or depressed. Each emotion hides another level of consciousness. You discover more strength within yourself if you understand your emotions, and that they can be managed. Caution, however: positive thinking is not enough in itself to regain a state of optimal psychological health. This is only a starting point. We must also change our habits.
