Foodspo: Bananas about bananas

banana for banana

As some of you might have guessed. Maybe… juuuust maybe because of the little hint in my blog name. I don’t know? I am absolutely crazy about bananas. I mainly love them because they taste so damn good and together with peanut butter it’s just pure heaven. But did you also know that bananas have many health benefits? (+ my favorite oats recipe at the end!)

  1. Bananas help overcome depression due to high levels of tryptophan, which is converted into serotonin — the happy-mood brain neurotransmitter.

  2. Bananas are a perfect pre-workout snack to give your energy a boost and sustain your blood sugar

  3. Bananas are high in potassium, which protects you against muscle cramps during workouts or during nighttime..

  4. Bananas help to counteract calcium loss during urination and thereby helps to build strong bones.

  5. Improve your mood and reduce PMS symptoms by eating a banana, which regulates blood sugar and produces stress-relieving relaxation.

  6. Bananas reduce swelling, protect against type II diabetes, strengthen the nervous system, and help with the production of white blood cells, all due to high levels of vitamin B-6.

  7. Strengthen your blood and relieve anemia with the added iron from bananas.

  8. High in potassium and low in salt, bananas are officially recognized by the FDA as being able to lower blood pressure and protect against heart attack and stroke.

  9. Bananas act as a prebiotic, stimulating the growth of friendly bacteria in the bowel. They also produce digestive enzymes to assist in absorbing nutrients.

  10. Constipated? High fiber in bananas can help normalize bowel motility.

  11. Got the runs? Bananas are soothing to the digestive tract and help restore lost electrolytes after diarrhea.

  12. Bananas are a natural antacid, providing relief from acid reflux, heartburn and GERD.

  13. Bananas are the only raw fruit that can be consumed without distress to relieve stomach ulcers by coating the lining of the stomach against corrosive acids.

These are just a few examples of why bananas are awesome!

You see? I didn’t choose my blog name just like that, believe me, bananas ARE awesome 😉

That is one of the reasons why I love to start my day with my favorite bowl of oatmeal!

BANANA-PEANUT BUTTER OATS – party in your belly!

what do you need:

  • 1/2 cup of oats
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 large banana
  • 1 (or for the real peanut butter lovers out there, like me… more than 1) tablespoon of peanut butter
  • cacao nibs

Put the oats and almond milk in a bowl and microwave for 2mins, then stir and add another 2 mins (depending on your microwave wattage, this could be a little longer or shorter, so make sure the bowl doesn’t overflow!). Take it out of the microwave, stir and let it sit for a few minutes. Slice up your banana and put it on top, add the peanutbutter and cacao nibs and tadaaaa you’re done, it’s that easy!
